Management Development Programme

A Pan European packaging company had recently integrated a major acquisition. Its market was mature and very competitive and it needed to find a competitive edge through its management skills.

Strategic Direction designed programmes for graduates, junior managers and middle managers. Each programme comprises seven modules run over a 20 month period. The framework above was used and programme included Finance, Leaderships, Interpersonal skills, Strategy, Project Management, Presentation Skills, and Change Management.

These programmes are now in their sixth year. The annual intake is oversubscribed, without any internal marketing and past participants nominate their own staff.

Sales Person of the Year

Angus tells the tale.
"I was presenting with other sales people to a panel containing the Managing Director - he would be the prime decision maker on who would be the Sales Person of the Year. I remembered from the Influencing Skills course to think of the motivation of those I am trying to influence. The MD's motivation is profit. I also determined from the Interpersonal Skills course that the MD had a short attention span and liked to know about action not just analysis. Also from the Presentation Skills course I remembered to stay quiet when I gave out samples.

"So I kept the presentation short, I focussed on the profit impact of my initiatives and I left them to examine products and ask their own questions. My sales results were no better than others, but I became the winner. Thank you."

Finance Training for Sourcing Managers

Sourcing Managers in a major IT company needed to understand the financial strength of companies with whom they are signing contracts.

Strategic Direction organised some finance simulations to help them understand business finance and critical business ratios. This was linked to the data available through credit rating agencies and reinforced by case work using real data from potential suppliers.

The participants said they felt much better prepared to understand financial data and importantly to identify the extra questions that would reveal the true situation.
